The Goblin Market serves as a hub for players to purchase new items and upgrades. The different hubs that players can visit to customize various parts of their characters are exciting and will have you exploring for a while.
Some areas are just bustling with different colors and points of interest. The game world design can be breathtaking. And being able to outfit both your characters with their own unique weapons and armors makes it feel much more personal. This means that you’ll need to dodge, roll, and parry your way to an opening to do some damage properly. Many of the enemies you will face will be at least ten times bigger than you. It’s a shame that when one comes around, it limits you to who you can play with.īut this does not take away from how fluid the combat feels. Nowadays, not many stories are made with two players in mind. Unfortunately, the game has no online components, which is a shame because it seems like a perfect brawler to enjoy with a friend. It can completely change the dynamic of a battle if done correctly. When one is low on health, you can bring the other in and take over the fight. The Arcade CrewĮssentially the twins can tag each other into combat. Players can play as both twins on the same screen or play single-player where you can alternate which twin you control. It is a cooperative adventure to its core. The combat in Young Souls is beautifully crafted and features an in-depth system that keeps players occupied and invested. Hearing Tristan and Jenn talk about their adventure as they progress through the catacombs feels so raw and natural. Which is a shame considering how great the writing is and how well the characters are built up. You start with some dialogue options, but they sort of disappear somewhere along the way. You’ll get some story elements during and after boss fights, but that’s pretty much it. Which sort of makes the middle portions of the game feel like a mindless brawler at times. The middle of the game will have a few scenes and some dialogue, but nothing in the capacity it should. The story for Young Souls is intriguing and easy to follow, but after the initial introduction to the problem, it mostly goes away until the end portion of the game. To do these twins will need to plunge themselves deep into the double life The Professor lives, one filled with Goblins. In Young Souls, you follow the lives of Tristan and Jenn, two teenagers that must put their differences aside to rescue their foster parent, The Professor, and the new town that they now call home. Then you go back to the beginning, where your journey begins. The game starts by throwing you into the middle of a massive battle with a giant drill and burning buildings. The battle between Goblins and Humans is a tried tale that spans many different forms.

It’s a game that blends in the combat style of souls games and RPG elements with 2D side-scrolling brawls with art direction that oozes class. And now it’s finally getting a full-fledged release so others outside the Stadia platform can enjoy it. Young Souls is a game that already had its initial run as a Stadia Exclusive back in 2021. This dynamic, coupled with the game’s keen writing and intriguing gear system, makes for a great game held back by glitches and lack of variety. The debut title for French developer 1P2P Studios, Young Souls, places two teenagers at the center of their city’s untimely ruin as they struggle with what it means to be a hero.
